Fay Shimizu

I enjoyed taking JPNS 102 from Shimizu Sensei. I think that she is techically 'retired', but shows great commitment and still teaches weekend classes when there's a demand. Since she is a native speaker, she is very knowledgeable and as her student, I had an 'authentic' experience. Be ready to do homework and to use Japanese as much as possible. Be ready to hear Japanese too, lots of it. For the most part, the use of English is frowned upon, but is tolerated. Since it's difficult to get in touch with her during the week, you should address any 'out of class' personal concerns to her either before class or immediately after class. She was always willing to stay behind and help me out. Okay, I must admit that although Shimizu Sensei is not my favorite Sensei, I have learned a great deal from taking her class and am glad that I had her as my Sensei.
