Teaches skills, not the stuff you can look up anyway

Dr. Dang is an excellent instructor. She is very easy going, and does her best to make a difficult subject accessible. She expects you to know your stuff, which means you will have to study ... a lot. But that's just how o-chem is. And most places it's a lot worse, because you would be expected to memorize the reactions for each test. Dr. Dang lets you bring in an index-card "cheat sheet" for the tests, which allows you to focus on actually using the information rather than just memorizing it. She is fair in her grading and she offers many opportunities for extra credit.

You will have to take very good notes, do your homework - all of it - and most likely find a study group. You cannot fall behind, even a little bit, in the first few weeks, and you'll be sorry anytime you come less than fully prepared for class. Not because Dr. Dang will call you out, but because it will be difficult to keep up with the lecture. But if you invest enough time with the material to understand what you are doing, and you have decent problem solving / analytical skills, you'll get a good grade, and more importantly you will be well prepared for the advanced courses.

Dr. Dang loves her subject, and she seems to like teaching as well - she was always accessible, friendly and ready to explain things a few different ways. She made o-chem enjoyable and interesting for me. I would recommend her section to anyone who wants or needs the intro class.
