Karen Walker

This is Karen's first year at UMF. She has an impressive background in teaching and administration at the Elementary level as well as teaching at the college level. Karen is, by far, one of my favorite professors of all time (this is my fourth year). She is outgoing and exuberant. It is obvious she loves to teach. She doesn't LECTURE! Rather, she discusses, with the class, the important topics and allows us to "debate" on them. The homework level is perfect. There is not even homework for every class meeting. There are 3 response papers (4-5 pages) and one large paper consisting of 4 parts (2-3 pages each). There is also occasional reading from the textbook. I'm not saying it's "easy," there is a lot of thinking and research to do for some of these, but it's manageable. The courseload is perfect! Karen's always available for her students outside class. You can count on a smile from her at ANY time. Her pleasant demeanor and zeal for teaching make her a superb professor. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
